Our life flows on its own. There’s no need to push the river. Why are some swept away by its current, others drown at every opportunity, while others boldly navigate its waters in harmony? Using the river as a metaphor, most people could easily explain it—but what are our diverse inner settings in life? I offer you a resonance trainer. In this theatre workshop, we will expose ourselves to streams of inspiration and come to feel and understand where our “mental aerodynamics” falter, and where we smoothly glide through life—in body, posture, movement, breath, the ability to express, to listen, and to surrender. We will step into roles and improvise life in a safe circle. We’ll try on a whole wardrobe of “other skins.” All of this under the healthy pressure of theatrical time and the discomfort that comes with revealing ourselves to others.

Where does body meet meaning? When is a gesture real? How can silence be a statement and chaos a structure?

A performative workshop that explores three key elements of creation in contemporary art on the axis of authenticity ~ content ~ composition. In this workshop we will explore the boundaries between body and text, between individual experience and collective gesture, between what we can say – and what can be experienced. We will seek a bodily and emotional presence that is not acting. We will focus on working with the body, breath and voice not as part of the “naturalness” but as a conscious choice. We will work with open-ended meanings, metaphors and ambiguity. We will explore how content is created, how it is (mis)communicated and what all takes place between the creator and the viewer. We will analyze dramaturgical possibilities in non-narrative structures and try out our own compositions – from micro-gestures to whole situations. Composition as a rhythm of body, image, sound, duration, a laboratory in which we explore: who am I when I am in front of the other? Where do I end and where does the image begin? And what actually happens?

What does “home” mean to us? Where does belonging begin – and when does departure become inevitable? This residency invites participants to explore the theme of home and belonging in times of displacement, movement, and inner searching. Through the nonverbal language of postmodern theatre, we delve into the dilemmas of staying versus leaving, the experience of home, and questions of identity. Participants work with their own experiences, bodily memory, and social reflexes in a collective yet autonomous creative process. The workshop is based on image theatre techniques and focuses on nonverbal, form-disrupting performative approaches. Through individual and group exercises, participants experiment, play, reflect, and share. Together, we deconstruct traditional theatrical structures and reassemble them from both personal and political perspectives.

What does the performer’s solitude on stage mean? How does the process of creating a stage world begin? Does the actor’s or actress’s loneliness also imply full responsibility for what the audience sees? Every second counts. Who is standing before us? Where are we leading the audience? Text, visuals, acting, sound, light – how do we arrange it all? Or – maybe – love and do what you will? I don’t know. “I don’t know” is always just the beginning! We’ll see! During the workshop, we will create short theatrical études in the style of monodrama. We will work with ideas and materials brought by the participants themselves, as well as with improvisation and the available resources of the space.
